Full Refret

$400.00

Includes: old frets removed. Fretboard Inspected and Trued. New Frets Installed*, Leveled, Crowned, and Polished. Fretboard Conditioned.

A good option for guitars with frets too worn for a level, crown, and polish, or if looking to change fret size/material. Choose from Nickel-Silver or Stainless Steel fret wire* in a variety of sizes. After removing your old frets, the fretboard and fret slots will be inspected and prepped for the installation of new frets. One significant benefit of a refret is this step. Given the nature of wood, fretboards can become slightly twisted, bumpy, uneven. These issues can be addressed at this stage if desired. The fretboard can be leveled and planed to a perfect radius. Though this is not always necessary or desired. Some like to retain the original patina and wear as much as possible. The next step is radiusing and installing your new frets. Once in place, they will be leveled, crowned, and polished. The fret ends will be rounded and polished as well to ensure a smooth feel as you move up and down the neck. Finally the fretboard will be conditioned. If necessary a new nut will be hand crafted. Often the increased height of newly installed frets requires a new nut but this is not always the case. After the fretboard and nut are sorted a Standard Setup will be performed on the guitar.

*due to material cost and tooling wear, stainless steel frets incur a $100 upcharge

*bound fretboards require additional fret preparation and incur a $60 upcharge. Fret nibs are not preserved during the refretting process.

Additional Info: Unfortunately, refrets on finish-sensitive maple fretboards must be declined as this shop unable to do finish work at this time.
